NaNoWriMo Intro

Okay, despite the official organization having apparently eaten itself from the inside-out within the last year, I still want to make 2025 my first attempt at the NaNoWriMo challenge. I want to build some better writing habits and this seems like a good way to practice. I consider myself a multi-media artist, and I have some larger goals in mind of stories I would like put out into the world. Self reflecting, I find I lack some practice and experience, which is why I want to start getting myself on the grind to improve my overall artistic skills: writing, drawing, designing, editing, and most importantly, storytelling. I love setting rules for myself so, to start, the main aim, in terms of numbers, is to write Roughly 50,000 words across the month of November.

The real challenge here will not so much be reaching the word count each day, but likely it’ll be in finding the time each day to do so. I decided that, even though one would have to write 1,667 words per day to reach the full 50k (stealing that number from Wikipedia), my own personal goal will be an even 1,111 words per day. Even if I wasn’t writing for personal reasons, my jobs have me doing a lot of writing, which I will say make up that last remaining bit of the total word count. I’ll be using Scrivener to keep track of my word count for this (it won’t count what I delete and I will subtract the count of anything I paste in), which is why stuff I write outside of the program won’t be Counted, but it’ll still Count. Got it?

This section of my site here is to catalog this effort. What I put here will likely be highly abbreviated and lightly edited from what I originally wrote, but stuff like this intro will make it on there, and some short updates along the lines of “I wrote about XYZ today”. Maybe once the month is over I will compile the log into a post for the blog section of my page; the poor thing has been unused for a while.

In fact, one of the many things I have in mind with this involves writing more things for this website. There’s some essays I’ve been carrying around in my head about various topics I also want to write about for the blog. I’d like to write more entries for The Master Plan, of course. A large chunk of the writing I will do that, consequentially, won’t been seen publicly involves some short story/ren’py game ideas that I am hoping will bare fruit someday, so no looking until its all ready, okay?

11/01 - Word Count = Complete

That’s the intro then, which already brought be to over 500 words for today. I also completed editing a write-up of an event I went to a few days ago for a local FB community news page to get in the rest of the words for today.

11/02 - Word Count = Complete

I worked on editing an old essay of mine to use as a portfolio piece when applying to jobs. Its a few years old already so it was painful to look at, but I made some good progress by brainstorming how to rework it all!

11/03 - Word Count = Complete

I finished working on the now-latest entry of The Master Plan. Go check it out and listen to Agent Yoru o Yuku 10000 times for me, thanks.

11/04 - Word Count = Incomplete

Sorry, I got busyyyyy

11/05 - Word Count = Complete

I worked more on that portfolio piece. My goal is to have it done before or during my Thanksgiving break from work. I checked out a big stack of books on the topic and wrote a bunch of notes. Feels good to do research writing again!
